The Spring Wardrobe Swap: A Little Ritual Worth Keeping
There's a particular kind of morning that happens every September. The light changes first. Then one day you go to grab your usual wool jumper and it just feels like too much. That's the sign. Spring has arrived, whether the calendar told you or not.
For most of us, this means one thing: pulling the summer clothes out of storage and packing the wool away for another year. It's easy to treat this as a chore, something to rush through on a Sunday afternoon between everything else. But we think it deserves a bit more than that.
More than just swapping boxes
When you actually sit down and go through your wardrobe piece by piece, something interesting happens. You start remembering things. That jumper you wore constantly through July but somehow forgot you owned. The linen shirt that never quite fit right and has been sitting at the back of the drawer since last February. The pieces you reached for again and again, and the ones that never left the hanger.
This is the part worth slowing down for. Not because it's productive, but because it's honest. Your wardrobe tells you the truth about how you actually live, not how you thought you might live when you bought something. Some things simply won't have earned their place. And that's fine. It's useful information, not a failure.
Take a bit of time with it if you can. Make a cup of tea, put on something good to listen to, and go through each piece with a simple question in mind: did I actually wear this, and did I feel like myself in it when I did?
What to actually do with what you find
A few thoughts, from us to you:
Wool first. Before you pack it away, give it a proper wash or air, check for any moth damage, and store it somewhere dry and dark. Good wool looks after you for years if you look after it in return.
Be honest about the maybes. The pieces you're not sure about are usually the ones you already know the answer to. If you haven't worn it this past winter, ask yourself whether that's likely to change.
Notice what you keep reaching for. This is the good part. The pieces that survive every seasonal clear out, that get softer and better with every wash, that you never once regret putting on. These are usually the simplest ones. Well made linen pants. A wool cardigan in a colour you actually like. Nothing complicated, just good.
A fresh start, without starting from scratch
There's something nice about spring cleaning your wardrobe without needing to replace everything in it. The goal isn't a new wardrobe every season. It's a smaller, better one that actually earns its keep, made from things that were made to last in the first place.
This is really the whole idea behind what we do. We only work in linen and wool because they're honest fabrics. They breathe, they soften, they age well, and eventually they go back into the ground instead of sitting in it forever. When you build a wardrobe around fibres like that, this seasonal ritual gets a lot simpler. You're not asking "does this still work" out of guilt. You're just checking in with pieces that were built to last the check in.
So this September, before you reach for anything new, take the time to reconnect with what you've already got. You might be surprised by how much of it still deserves a place in your drawers.
And when you're ready for what's next, our new linen range is here for exactly this moment. Made the same way we make everything: locally, from natural fibres, built to be worn and loved for a long time.
