Sustainable sourcing
Sustainable sourcing: Honouring the journey of every fibre
When you run your fingers over a finished garment - the softness of linen or the gentle warmth of merino wool against your skin - it’s easy to overlook the story behind every thread. The journey of our clothing begins way before it reaches your wardrobe, starting from the earth itself.
Sustainable sourcing lies at the very heart of our philosophy at Devina Louise. It means respecting and understanding each stage of the journey, from choosing natural fibres grown in harmony with nature, to thoughtfully working with makers who share our values. Put simply, we care deeply about where and how our materials are grown, harvested, and transformed into garments.
We choose exclusively natural fibres, like linen sourced from small European farms, and merino wool from sheep that graze freely on open pastures here in Australia and New Zealand. Our linen comes from flax crops that require little water, far less than traditional cotton, and nurture soil instead of depleting it. Similarly, the merino wool we use is ethically harvested, maintaining gentle practices that put animal and environmental welfare first.
Supporting sustainable sourcing practices also means understanding the human relationships behind every material used in our clothing. We collaborate with small-scale producers and makers who care deeply for the land they cultivate and the communities they support. Fair conditions and fair wages are non-negotiable for us, alongside a respectful connection with the artisans and their traditional craft.
By consciously sourcing our materials, we create garments intended to live a long life alongside their wearers. We don’t create fleeting trends - we design with intention, meaning each piece will gently age, soften, and become even more meaningful over time. Sustainable sourcing encourages thoughtful purchasing, moving beyond seasonal consumer cycles into a mindful wardrobe built to last.
But sustainability is not something we accomplish on our own. It’s a journey we undertake together. Every conscious choice you make to support transparent and mindful sourcing encourages greater responsibility across the fashion industry as a whole.
We invite you to reflect on your own wardrobe - its stories and connections. When we focus on sustainable sourcing, clothing becomes more than fabric; it becomes a companion with a meaningful story, part of a more compassionate and intentional way of living.
How does sustainable sourcing influence your own decisions about clothing? What stories do your most cherished garments hold?
